Giving our album away for free reminds me of an old SNL skit about “First City Wide Change Bank.” When asked how a change bank makes any money, the guy delivers the deadpan answer, “Volume.”
The theory behind free music is that bands make up the money by touring and selling shirts, licensing, etc. Hopefully you will all spread the word to all of your friends and lucrative touring offers will come in and we can become the first independent arena rock band.
However, we are not there yet. Here is where we are: we’ve got an album’s worth of material recorded, and another six or so songs written. We want to finish recording, mixing, and mastering it so that we can release it all in some form.
We are very proud of our die-hard fanbase. And we are asking you, the fans, to help us fund the completion of American Anthems vol. 2. With a little inspiration from Jill Sobule and Kevin Kelly, we have come up with a list of creative offerings for fans who donate to the cause.
Our goal is to raise about $5,000 to help offset recording costs. Read below, pick the option that best fits you, and make your contribution to American Anthems vol. 2. We will reward you accordingly!
The Digital Pre-Order: $10
Pre-Order now and have American Anthems vol. 2 delivered digitally one month before it is available at any retail outlet in any format.
The Fan Pack: $25
The Fan Pack includes a copy of American Anthems vol. 2 on CD, delivered one month before it is available in stores, along with a custom printed shirt designed by the band.
The Kitchen Sink: $50
The Kitchen Sink contains one copy of every CD in the Milwaukees’ back catalog: Sunset & Sunrise, Missile Command, The Bland Comfort of Lloyd Justin, This is a Stickup, American Anthems vol. 1 as well as an autographed copy of American Anthems vol. 2, all delivered one month before AAv2 is available in stores.
The True Fan: $100
Get a copy of every Milwaukees CD, including an autographed advance copy of American Anthems vol. 2, a custom-printed shirt designed by the band, exclusive access to digital downloads of demos, studio outtakes, unreleased track and more. In addition, you’ll get two full-access guest-list passes to the show of your choosing as well as having your name listed in the liner notes for AAv2.
The Executive Producer: $250
Get your name listed an “Executive Producer” of American Anthems vol. 2. You will have an open invitation to spend time with the band during rehearsals and the recording sessions for AAv2. Includes an autographed advance copy of AAv2.
